Cowboy Poetry Contest

Warning: This post is a bit of a proud mama post so if you prefer not to read now is your chance to turn away.

Kelsi was called earlier this month and informed that she had been chosen as a Top Hand winner, along with two others, in the Cowboy poetry contest sponsored by the Gila Valley Cowboy Poets Inc.

I am so proud of her.  This has really been a great experience.  She got to read her poem on one of the local radio stations.  She was so nervous, but she did great!  She also got to read it at open mic night at one of the little shops on Main Street in Safford.  These were just preparation for the big event.  On October 26, there was the Gila Valley Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering at Discovery Park.  She got to share her poem at this event.  Both sets of her grandparents got to be there.  It was a great event.

She also got a free hat from Pollack Western’s Outfitters and a free rope from H & S Feed Store.  Most importantly she gained some wonderful skills in public speaking.

We did have one surprise when we got to the event.  We found out that she also won third place in the Kids Western Art Show for the 6th grade.  For this honor she was given a ribbon and a nice art set.  This turned out to be a really big night for her. 022

It really turned out to be a fun event for the whole family.
